We are located in the historic Olde Towne section of Portsmouth, Virginia. We
share our home and hearts with our Shiloh Shepherds - Breeze, Midas & Odyssey
and our Alaskan Malamute - Alosia. Our dogs live indoors with us as members
of our family.
As trusted guardians and contributors to the future of these phenomenal giant
breeds, we take our roles seriously. We are dedicated to raising healthy,
well-socialized, balanced and happy dogs that are breed ambassadors and enjoy
a variety of activities that reflect the attributes that make them so special --
incredible intelligence, beautiful conformation, devotion, stable temperament,
size, and wonderful health.
We conduct and support health testing, and we believe in providing transparency
of results. We proudly display our Health & Pedigree information. With our
hectic work and school schedules, we have taken a break from raising litters in
our home for the last several years. We remain active in the Shiloh community
and have two wonderful Shiloh males available at stud to select females. We
are immensely proud of the puppies put forward and plan to resume breeding in
the future.
There's always something happening here at Xanadu,so we hope you'll stop
by often.
The Shiloh Shepherd is a rare and unique dog -- a loyal, loving family
member, protector, guardian and friend. Shilohs are known for their
incredible intelligence, very large size (males above 28" and females no less
than 26" at the withers), wholesome beauty, and versatility.
There are many wonderful Shiloh breed ambassadors involved in search &
rescue, therapy work, agility, conformation showing, herding, obedience
and many more activities. With the combination of giant size coupled with
their uncanny intelligence -- foundation dogs include German Shepherd
Dogs, American Shepherds, White Shepherds and Giant Malamute -- they
require exercise, mental stimulation and a purpose in life.
There are many websites and articles written about the Shiloh Shepherd.
As with many new breeds, there can be conflicting viewpoints among those
who are passionate about their beloved dogs, but what no one can dispute
is the incredible nature of the Shiloh Shepherd and the blueprint for its
ideal.
Simply put, once you share your life with a Shiloh Shepherd, you will
understand why we cannot imagine our lives without them.

After researching the breed for many years, we welcomed Alosia to Xanadu
in July of 2009.
The Malamute is a descendant of dogs of the Mahlemuts tribe of upper
western Alaska. These dogs had a prominent role with their human
companions – they worked, hunted and lived alongside their families,
including babysitting the children. For thousands of years, people of the
Arctic used the Malamute to pull the biggest loads over the farthest
distances. Such a large and powerful dog was needed for survival, as the
Alaskan Malamute was the workhorse of the Arctic capable of existing in
below zero temperature and working in extreme conditions. The Eskimo
people practiced some of the best dog breeding of any place on Earth. They
knew that their dogs needed an ideal coat, and perfect feet, body,
temperament and structure to survive such a harsh environment.
The Malamute traveled with Rear Admiral Richard Byrd to the South Pole and
transported miners and their supplies during the Gold Rush of 1896. They
served as search and rescue dogs in Greenland during World War II. The
Malamute is not a fast racing dog; instead, the breed was use for freighting,
pulling thousands of pounds of supplies. They are tireless in their work. For
this reason, a Malamute is a dog that needs exercise and a job. Otherwise,
all of that energy can turn destructive out of boredom.
We are honored to share our home with Alosia and look forward to spending
many active, healthy years with her. More information on Alosia can be
found on her page.
Please responsibly research this breed and its original purpose before
choosing to adopt.

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.
